ok, we went to see the closing cast of Rent on tour.

It was better than I remember it being when it was new. I think aging drove more of it home. And it's cracks against the 'web, but that's another story...

So, our 5.5 year old (yes, he went with us.) wanted to see if we could find a video of it.

And low and behold, they made it into a movie! (yes, we're out of the loop).

So I went and threw that and the Broadway production in my Amazon cart.

And then, when looking for the protest song over the moon, I found this clip from the movie.

Color me less than impressed.

This is the stage version.

More energy, more silliness, more ego. I also don't like how people in the movie audience are laughing--- she and they are supposed to be serious.

And in the movie, she's missing that star. It's Maureen--- where's her star?

So I went to look for La Vie Boheme.

and this is the movie.

It's static, and it's missing the conflict building between Joanne and Maureen.

So, have people seen the movie and the stage and would you recommend buying the movie? Because, at this point I'm not going to get it...

I did. I do like the stage version 'better', but in absence of that, I like to watch the movie. I can pop the dvd in anytime. I can't always pop out to see Rent on stage. I am not saying it's better, I'm just saying I like it.
