ok, let me know what you think---

a gift certificate to the big grocery store here (no clutter, actually useful) and a 3x5 booklet of cards and photos made by the kids?

I'm class parent. Suddenly realized I need to do this...

Sounds good. The booklet will be something to remember this class by & the gift certificate will no doubt come in handy.

I tend to give people frivolous gifts. I figure people worry about money too much (especially these days) & don't give themselves gifts enough. It's ok to get something just because you want it.

But doing something like that is hard for someone else if you don't know them well enough to know their tastes.

I've done Target gift cards for things like this before, because anyone can find something that they can use at Target.

Target strikes a pretty good balance between too expensive and too cheap.
I like the idea of the card from the children. The teacher will probably like that as well as the gift card.
