Sounds like part of a dirty joke, doesn't it? But it's not:

Quote:
A Pagan who claims she was unfairly dismissed after a South African Air Force (SAAF) official told her he didn't want to "unleash" her on troops at the Air Force Base in Ysterplaat, will face her former employers in the Bellville Equality Court on Thursday.

Donna Vos, also known as Arch Priestess Donna Darkwolf Vos, is one of the most prominent and well-known pagans in South Africa.

She holds a biblical diploma and a masters of theology, both of which helped to earn her a job as a reserve chaplain with the SAAF in 2003.

But she claims her qualifications were disregarded by a high-ranking official once he found out about her religious beliefs....

Do they have freedom of religion in South Africa?
You'd think that the oppressed majority would have created a progressive type of constitution, wouldn't you?

In my experience, the oppressed are often just as, or even more, bigoted and hateful. They even feel justified in being so since they are victims themselves. "Hey, I am an oppressed person, that gives me the right to hate you!"

I would think that in Africa "woo" would be more accepted. They got a lot of it still going around.

Maybe it is because Wicca is considered to be a white person's religion.

but Pagan doesn't necessarily, automatically mean Wiccan. I would think any pre-Christian religion qualifies as Pagan. My thought when I first read it was that she was practising (why do they call it "practising?) some authentic African tribal-type religion & that maybe the SAAF wanted to disassociate themselves from what might be considered a "barbaric relic of their past".

Practice is the actual activities (rituals). Versus just thinking about it which is the theory ...

Hence, in theory you can have a frictionless surface, but in practice we have to deal with empathy, 'cause we're in the real world. So ... If you do any rituals of a religion, you're practicing that religion ...

And don't the Jews have some theological folklore about Yahweh accepting them all if every Jew throughout the world observes the Sabbath correctly? Maybe practice does make perfect? :cheeky:

All of 'em one time @ the same time, or all of 'em one time in their life?

"Cause if it's all of 'em @ the same time that's gonna be rough. A lot harder then when people tried that Hands across America thing.

Hey, I did the hand across America thing!

:cheeky:

And yes, it is rumored that the Messiah will come when all the Jews observe the Sabbath once correctly at the same time.

ie: never.

Some of the comments are disturbing -- not for their bile, but for their stupidity.

"Proper theology is the study of the CHRISTIAN God." Because, you see, everyone else is an incorrect poopiehead and can't possibly study theology without believing in JC.

Maybe the fear that someone can 'know' it and not believe it...

means there may not be something there?

:dontknow:

Ah, I see. Also, how can she possibly be compassionate towards people's needs if she doesn't believe in gawd?
