Spill in detail!

Saturnalia, for my Roman roots, Christmas, since most of my family were raised Christian, Hanukkah, since some of my family was raised Jewish instead, and New Years, which is the traditional Russian winter holiday, since my girlfriend and her family are Russians.

We went and cut our own Christmas tree again this year. Wasn't as much fun as last year because we went to a more crowded location on a weekend, but the family enjoyed it. (Seriously, there was more than one traffic jam on a tiny one-way mountain road. We got pretty much pushed out of the cutting spots, but the lady at the exit gate let us pull over and get a tree. Next year it's back to last year's location, totally open and free, saw almost no one, and got to spend the day hiking around looking for the perfect tree.)

We'll probably do a Hanukkah party with some Jewish friends.

Nothing particularly Pagan, although my daughter, who's 15 now, is still practicing the Wicca and might set something unexpected up :) She did leave an offering at the site where we cut the tree, which I would have done myself in times past before she began to do it. While I would have used tobacco, she uses home-grown chamomile and sage.

That sounds like fun, Apsu! I haven't cut my own tree in about 30 years, when my dad cut one when I was a kid.

We do an... artificial tree now... Just plain easier...

Chris: I'd be interested in hearing more about what you do.

Our Solstice is a long one. Fitting I guess. We do the house in all the trimmings, and we have the Prettiest Tree in the World (tm). It's almost done, I'll post pics later. Everything is on it--- homemade things, from our first Yule together, ornaments from Hex's Gramma's tree, silly things like a plastic Rocketer from when that movie was out and plastic dinos to traditional glass balls. Wehave an angel on top that I whipped up our first year together (we are both star people) when our star exploded.

no lie.

Our timing is a bit off because my parents are Christian and they celebrate with us, so we are more flexible.

We start the celebration with whole wheat, which we mix with honey and poppyseeds. We may do a round of toasts when we do that, probably with a pomegranite and champagne punch. Sometimes we do that as early as the 7th, but this year's been bad, and we're doing it tommorrow.

We'll spend the evening up with apps and just enjoy the tree and cookies.

We eat several feasts over the next week. We'll have crown roast of pork, 'gravy' (slow cooked tomato sauce with all sorts of good meats), and goose. The eve we'll spend at my folk's and open their prezzies.

We open a present a day from the 25th through the 6th. On the 6th, we'll have Uzva, which is stewed fruits I serve that with sponge cake and custard sauce. Then we undecorate the house, except for the candles and winter things, which stay up until candlemas/Imbolic/lupercalia/Groundhog Day.

Which is another big feast deal for us...

What did you make your angel out of? My boy has made a tradition out of cutting out a snowflake to top our tree with every year.

And I have no clue how jess could have forgot the eggnog!

Real, homemade eggnog with bourbon and rum and cream and eggs that has to be whipped up again when you go to get another glass so that it has the right consistency ...

And, did I mention that it packs a nice punch? :drunken:

And eggnog.

How could I forget the eggnog?

We had been making ornaments for our first year together, and I made it with a styrofoam ball for a head, and floss for hair, and a man's hanky for a body, and some leftover satin for a dress...

I'll dig up a pic... or take a new one!

Eggnog is the reason for the season.

Sound like fun!

I actually woke up this morning after a night of overeating, not heavier... I was happy!

Now---- cookies!

mrs. sidhe gave me this absolutely evil recipe that I'm going to try tomorrow. It involves chocolate cake mix, vanilla pudding and other stuff I can't recall right now. It looks very rich. Should be good for at least another five pounds on mah belly.
