You love your pets. And you love taking pictures of them. Why not enter your pictures in the 2008 Pets & Pals Photo Contest?

2008 Pets & Pals Photo Contest Categories

1. Dogs Your dog is a loyal friend, playmate, service companion or member of the family. Capture your dog’s personality. This category is open to pictures of one dog alone or more than one dog together.

2. Cats They’re graceful! They’re playful! They’re curious! What is your cat up to? This category is open to pictures of one cat alone or more than one cat together.

3. People & Pets What are we without our pets and what are our pets without us? Honor a special human-animal bond. This category is open to pictures of one or more animals with one or more people.

4. Petpourri Have a great picture of your dog and cat together? Got a pet besides a dog or cat? This category is open to pictures of one or more companion animals of any variety.

5. Down on the Farm Take your pick of the many animals found on a farm and capture a unique shot. This category is open to pictures of farm or ranch animals.

6. Shelter Life At an animal shelter, amazing, devoted people take care of homeless animals waiting to be adopted. Snap a shot honoring both the animals and the professionals. This category is open to pictures of shelter staff, volunteers, veterinarians, and animal control professionals and/or animals, in shelter settings.

Win a Prize!

Two Grand Prize winners will be selected: one from categories 1-5, and one from category 6. Each of the two Grand Prize winners will win $2,000 plus a noncash prize package. Of the remaining finalists in each category, six Category Winners (one in each category) will each win $500 plus a noncash prize package.

Entries will be judged on creativity, composition, photo quality and appropriateness to category.

Last year’s winners are not eligible to win. One prize per person. Grand-Prize winners are not eligible to win Category prizes.

How to Enter

All entries must be postmarked on or after June 15, 2008, but no later than July 31, 2008, and received no later than August 7, 2008.

Follow these guidelines:

DO’s

DO submit each photo with a signed Official Application and Release Form.
DO carefully read and understand the rules.
DO make sure your photo is no larger than 8”x10” and no smaller than 3”x 5”.
DO submit a commercially developed print or a digital photograph printed at 300 dots per inch minimum on quality photo paper. Emailed photos, DVDs, CDs or other electronic submissions are not eligible.
DO write your name, address, phone number, email and the name(s) of the people and animals in the photo on a label, then place it on the back of the photo.
DO look at past winners for an idea of what the judges may be looking for.
DON’T’s

DON’T submit photos by email, or on DVD, CD or other electronic media.
DON’T write on the front or back of your photo. It compromises the photo’s quality.
DON’T put your pet in distress or dress it up in costumes.
DON’T photograph an animal against a busy background, like a floral print couch or a cluttered room.
DON’T submit photos of wild animals.
DON’T submit a photo that infringes copyrights, or has previously won awards or been published elsewhere.
All entries will become the property of the American Humane Association and will not be acknowledged or returned.
